President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev said that the question of the suspension of Russian athletes, valid until further notice, could theoretically be considered again after the elections to the board of directors of the International Skating Union (ISU).
The ISU Congress on Tuesday extended the suspension of Russian athletes from international competition until further notice.
The congress meeting in Phuket began with the 12th agenda item, which included the confirmation of the extension of several ISU communiqués, including the April 2469 communiqué, which referred to the cancellation of competitions in Russia and Belarus due to the situation in Ukraine, and also the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes until further notice. The same goes for ISU officials from Russia and Belarus.
– Common sense prevailed, the amendment to the regulations, which could become the basis for the abolition of the federations, was not adopted. Unfortunately, the suspension of our athletes has been extended. It is possible that after the elections to the ISU Council – the suspension is valid until further notice – these measures, announced in communiqué 2469, will be returned and revised, Gulyaev told , noting that this could happen in the near future immediately after the municipal elections.
Elections to the governing bodies of the UIS will take place on June 10.
