The Polish Fencing Federation is ready to cancel the World Cup stage in Poznan if Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate in it

Competitions are scheduled for April 21-23

Polish Fencing Federation (PFF) ready to cancel stage fencing world cup in Poznan, if Russian and Belarusian athletes take part in it.

“Now we are waiting for the official interpretation of the decisions of the Extraordinary FIE Congress, concerning, among other things, the determination of the neutrality of athletes. Such an interpretation is necessary for the provision of information to the Polish authorities, who decide on the issuance of entry visas.”

“We confirm that we are ready to host the World Cup in Poznań, however, any decision can only be made after receiving a response from the FIE. Depending on these explanations, the Polish Fencing Federation does not rule out refusing to organize the World Cup stage,” said PFF Secretary General Jacek Słupski.

The stage in Poznan is scheduled for April 21-23. The competitions should be the first where they plan to allow Russian and Belarusian fencers in a neutral status.

Earlier, the German Fencing Federation (DFB) refused to host the next stage of the Women’s Foil Fencing World Cup, which was supposed to be held on May 5-6. The DFB spoke in support of Ukraine and stated that they would be looking for an alternative for holding the competition.

At an extraordinary FIE congress, it was decided to remove the ban from Russian and Belarusian athletes. The decision comes into force in the second half of April 2023. The International Olympic Committee took note of the decision of the FIE to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete.

The Fencing Federation of Ukraine twice filed a request to block this decision, but their protest was not satisfied. In addition, the FIE allowed the official representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus to return to the structures.

At the same time, the Lithuanian Fencing Federation and the Scandinavian Fencing Union did not support the decision of the International Fencing Federation.
