Bach – on the criteria for the admission of Russians to competitions: Any active support for the war, including wearing the letter “Z”, is prohibited

The IOC has not yet decided what to do with Russian athletes who serve in the army

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach once again justified the position on the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Bach also clarified the criteria by which they will determine whether this or that athlete of the Russian Federation and Belarus supports the war in Ukraine or not.

“It is clearly and clearly stated in our principles that any active support for the war, including the wearing of this letter “Z”, including fasting and much more, is prohibited. Anyone who supports the war in this way cannot and should not take part in the competition.

As for the many Russian athletes who serve in the armed forces or are associated with military organizations, the IOC may decide on them next week.

The IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. In this case, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and pass a mandatory doping test.

The IOC believes that a complete ban on the performance of Russian and Belarusian athletes is discrimination and is contrary to the Olympic Charter. The organizers of the 2024 Olympics in Paris said they would adhere to the decision of the IOC to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete under a neutral flag.

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine sent letters to the Olympic committees of other countries and international federations regarding the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
