Ambassadors of the Sports Front project called on the IOC to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in the 2024 Olympics

Ukrainian stars once again reminded of the crimes of the Russian army

Ambassadors of the Sports Front project together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in the 2024 Olympics.

On the eve of the IOC Congress, Ukrainian athletes recorded a video in which they called for an extension of the suspension of the Russians. Oleg Vernyaev, Anna Rizadinova, Stanislav Goruna, Georgy Zantaraya, Jean Belenyuk, Olga Kharlan, Marina Bekh-Romanchuk, Vladislav Geraskevich addressed to IOC President Thomas Bach.

“The admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 is unacceptable. Performance under a neutral flag is not a sanction, it is a way out of the situation for Russian and Belarusian athletes,” Vernyaev said.

“Those medals that they can win at tournaments under a neutral flag will be brought home and promoted under the Russian flag,” Goruna said.

“Under the white flag you can’t hide Bucha, Irpen, Mariupol, Kramatorsk, Kremenchug, Vinnitsa, Dnipro, my native Nikolaev and all the peaceful cities that are under the gun of Russia,” Harlan said.

The IOC Congress will take place on 28-30 March.

The IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. In this case, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and pass a mandatory doping test.

Later, IOC President Thomas Bach clarified the criteria by which they will determine whether this or that athlete of Russia and Belarus supports the war in Ukraine or not.

The IOC believes that a complete ban on the performance of Russian and Belarusian athletes is discrimination and is contrary to the Olympic Charter. The organizers of the 2024 Olympics in Paris said they would adhere to the decision of the IOC to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete under a neutral flag.

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine sent letters to the Olympic committees of other countries and international federations regarding the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
