Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Sergei Burlakov said life.ru that the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to raise the age limit to 17 will not help Russian skaters.
– Certainly: the decision to raise the age limit is not in Russia’s hands. Everyone knows very well that our very young skaters win major international tournaments and Olympic gold. Of course, athletes will continue to shine on the ice even after 17 years, but due to the age limit, they can lose a lot of rewards. I am sure that the decision of the ISU was made, among other things, to eliminate the young competitors from Russia,” said Burlakov.
Earlier on Tuesday, the International Skating Union (ISU) Congress adopted the organization’s board’s proposal to gradually raise the age limit to 17.
