“The world is starting to move closer to each other’s national apartments.” Shubenkov on the victory at the Znamensky memorial and the perception of the current situation in the world

About the running, the organization of the Znamenskys this year and the tournament for the first time after a long break took place in the capital and was broadcast on the federal television channel, the situation with the non-admission Russian athletes, hatred of Ukrainians in social networks and plans for the summer, which, of course, will be national, Sergei told reporters after the end of the competition.

– “Znamensky” on a large scale this year.

– The organization of tournaments in Russia is always on top, everything here is also very beautiful, very cool. The logistics are a little inconvenient, you have to go far, but in general, in all the crap that’s going on right now, in all this bad stuff, this tournament feels like a silver lining. It’s a shame we had to wait for things to get bad to start doing well. But what is, is. And the competition is just amazing. I immediately remember the 2013 World Cup in this stadium, it was a warm-up track before the main starts at the Luzhniki Grand Arena.

– On the run. The wind on the starting line in the back, it even bothers the hurdlers sometimes, how was it today?

I didn’t feel it, it’s light. The wind turns even easier, such a wind is comfortable. You just need to move your feet faster. Theoretically, yes, with the wind the barriers get closer and closer, but in practice I run faster in these conditions.

– The problem of Sochi, the second and the third barrier, did not happen today?

– Today is generally cool, we just practiced and everything is fine. The problem is that we don’t have any barriers on the warm-up track here, that’s a problem, yes. But it also happens abroad, in Monaco too, there is no road in Brussels, foreigners walk. So all is well here.

– Are the results good too?

– I am dissatisfied for a few seconds, but there is no reason to worry, the season is accelerating, I am gaining confidence. I already said in Sochi: you have to compete – train, train, train. Every departure helps, especially such a cozy departure, with such an atmosphere.

I compare the feelings today with the Russian team championship and only now I realized that there were nerves there – a long absence from competition, an injury. I was treated, recovered, everything is fine, but the nervousness was like I was a novice athlete who had never run hurdles. Now everything is better, confidence comes, well, the seconds show it. Sure. The result is not what I would like to show at the end of this season, but we are working. The next start will be on sprint day, June 11, then home, and I don’t know yet where I will race next.

What would you like to show at the end of the season?

– Now I will say “Russian record”, and it is almost a European record. Therefore, I would really like to get closer to the 13-second line.

Does the new hairstyle help? So many invisible…

“Soon there will be an Iron Throne!” “Actually, it happened by accident, it’s just interesting to run like that.

– Was it difficult to accept the fact that there will not be any international competitions yet?

– This process was very simple, because we crossed out all the plans and said: “Do what you want.” On the one hand, it’s very disappointing, but on the other hand, it’s better than month after month, postponing the decision to reinstate the VFLA. And then just in February-March they said there would be no season.

– Did any of the foreign rivals write words of support?

I don’t really have a lot of contacts. Once upon a time written (Jamaican) Hansl Parchment, Tokyo Olympic champion in the 110 meter hurdles. (British) Colin Jackson, out of old friendship, asked me why I didn’t go to Tokyo initially. And now… you won’t believe it, but most of the foreign contacts are the old fraternal republics, anyway, it’s always been like that, Ukraine, Belarus, there were a lot of contacts there -down. Well, you can guess what they started writing.

– Ukrainians in artistic gymnastics in the “PM” wrote to our not the most pleasant things.

– I have the same. Maybe not so massively. First of all, I follow a lot of people and their posts appeared in the feed, full of tin. Olga Saladukha immediately began to write to the IOC (International Olympic Committee), so that no one was allowed anywhere, so that there would be no Olympic Games for us. And then they continued in private.

– Blocked someone?

– Yes, a lot of people had to be blocked, then I left the social network. And before that, everything was going towards that, I realized that I had no business there, but then they gave me a reason.

What is your attitude towards what is happening around you in general?

– It’s a long conversation about whether sport is in politics or out of it. Naturally, everything is linked in one way or another. And sport is just one of the manifestations of the fact that the world is beginning to close in national apartments from each other. This, of course, is not good, but it is what it is.

– Did you manage to find positive aspects to this situation?

– A year ago to regain his senses, feel the track. Life will be much easier for me this year.

– What if the results come in?

– If it goes well, fine. Otherwise, then snatch Achille, like last year, I’m not ready. The goal is to get in shape in the season, to show the result.

– They already said that they left the social networks, that you don’t follow the results of your opponents, but I hope you will watch the world championships in Eugene?

Yes, I am not what is happening. I only learn from journalists. But, of course, I will watch the final of the barriers and watch the news, of course. But this year, you know… I literally follow everything athletics out of the corner of my eye.

Is it psychologically easier to live like this?

Yes, much easier. The feeling, of course, that I live in my own world, having closed, but the first time, when February was, a full … star began there. And that approach, more time with family, with parents, has helped.

– Very often, when athletes suddenly find themselves with their families for a long time, and before that they were only home between training camps, then everyone … goes crazy – the family of the athlete and the family athlete.

– You know, in what way did I go crazy? In January-February there was some kind of horror – the kindergarten son infected so much that I did not get sick from anything! The diet was – I’m sick for a week, and severely, on antibiotics, in bed, then come to my senses for two weeks. Then he just came to his senses, went to training and again, everything repeats itself. The funny thing is that kids put up with all of this more easily, and if an adult brings something home, they don’t get sick of it. But if the baby brought something, then it goes in circles – first me, then the wife, then the youngest son. Then in reverse order. I have two sons, the eldest goes to kindergarten and brings all that. So family life hit hard in this regard, but it was saved by the fact that I left for training camp, where the runny nose and all the sores also disappeared from the air of Sochi.
