After the end of the competition, Ivanyuk spoke to reporters.
– I wanted to try the best result of the season in the world, I approached the judges before the jumps and found out that it was also the Znamensky Memorial record, I decided to try to make one two shots. The weather today is beautiful, the organizers tried to create a cool atmosphere, the only thing is that I would like a little more fans, but on the other hand, even small children from Bryansk came to see me here .
– Why didn’t you complete the three attempts at 2.38?
“It’s just that the strength is exhausted, you have to add it gradually. I have a personal best of 2.37, I wanted to try 2.38, and initially I told the judges 2.40, but then I came back and replaced the app. 2.40 is still early, I hope everything will be later.
– What did you like more – a competition record or world leadership?
– I like the fact that it is a competition record, because tomorrow someone can jump even higher than my result, if we are talking about the best in the world this season.
Moreover, this stadium for me is the most unhappy in my career, my first international competitions took place there in 2010 – the European Championship, selection for the first Youth Olympic Games. Then it was raining, I could not take the initial height, two meters, because I could not jump in such weather. And now – 2.34.
– Size 2.34 was seen in training?
– The start of the season is the second or third start in Russia. I honestly didn’t expect to show such good results today, after all training showed a different form, I jumped higher than I looked ready. During the competition I started to feel hitting the thrust, jumping, I caught that feeling and realized that 2.34 today is a real high, it can be taken. And got it on the second try. Not all the rivals are there yet, in a week we will meet Mikhail Akimenko in the same sector and hopefully we will make the whole world pay attention to our results.
— Have you prepared for the season as planned?
I’m not going to complain, but I would like to do better. Everything is regular, we didn’t use a centralized training, there is enough home base. Sometimes we come to Kislovodsk, mostly to recover. Everything is going according to plan, we recently discovered the schedule for the season and made adjustments. It’s time to prepare.
– There is a feeling that the big sport is out there somewhere, that we are out of the main events, maybe even an insult?
– No problem, listen, today we are organizing the Znamensky Memorial, and I don’t see any difference with the Diamond League, which was recently in Rabat. The television is there, all the best athletes are there, the image is no worse.
Speaking of international competitions, I periodically visit a group dedicated to high jumps, watch something, but nothing more. I have enough personal problems – a wife, a dog (laughs).
– Maria Lasitskene from the CR team in Sochi admitted that the Olympics have not yet come out, the price is very high. You have a different story related to Tokyo, now after a while how do you remember it?
– The Olympics didn’t go very well for me because of the injury I suffered the day before. The cause of the injury was an old partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, the scar became inflamed. I did not advertise it, because it was no longer possible to make a replacement, only to heal as much as possible and continue to fight in the Games. The result I showed in Tokyo, 2:30, given that three days before I couldn’t jump at all, I consider it good, it showed that even with such a knee, you can jump, as soon as I could stand the pain, I forgot the trauma.
But, nevertheless, the anger against myself remained, and this became the motivation to continue working. The Olympic season showed that I could jump high, but because of the knee in the Games I didn’t succeed, so I want to realize myself so that I don’t regret it later.
– So this season we will see 2.38 and more in your performances?
– I think if everything goes as planned, come to Bryansk on July 1 for the Russian Cup, and we’ll see. I want to try to jump there like that, well, or at the Russian championship. I think that dream can come true this year. At least I’ll try to see how it goes.
