Salnikov on IOC recommendations: ‘They talk about equality, but it’s not respected in the decision itself’

President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov considers that the recommendations of the Executive Committee International Olympic Committee (IOC) are contrary to the concept of equal rights for athletes.

The IOC’s executive committee on Tuesday announced recommendations on the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual eligibility, neutral status, no team events, no entry for athletes associated with law enforcement.

“The current recommendations, which include both restrictions on team sports and restrictions on the participation of athletes associated with certain sports societies, have made the admissions situation even more difficult, even if there seemed to be some glimmers of hope. The principles of equality and non-discrimination are not respected, even if it is said that everything is done precisely to take these principles into account, Salnikov told . – We are now waiting the decision of World Aquatics, which I think will be announced in the near future. As we can see, team sports are practically losing their chances, the question of relay races is open. We are awaiting the response from World Aquatics.
