The legendary coach headed the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation
Honored Coach and Hero of Ukraine Albina Deriugina died at the age of 92.
Deriugina began coaching in the 1970s at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. During her career, Albina became the head coach of the USSR national team, and later of the Ukrainian national team.
Under her leadership, many Olympic champions, winners and prize-winners of world and European competitions were brought up, including her daughter Irina Deryugina, Alexandra Timoshenko, Oksana Skaldina, Tamara Erofeeva, Anna Bessonova, Natalia Godunko, Anna Rizatdinova.
Together with her daughter Irina, Albina founded the Deryugins School of Rhythmic Gymnastics. She headed the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation, and was also a member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee.
