“At the start of the season, I didn’t understand what to do” – Samarin

European Figure Skating Championship Silver Medalist Alexander Samarin told Metaratings.ru that stepping onto the Russian Championship podium was a breath of fresh air for him.

— How do you like this unusual season?

– Personally, I was a little disappointed with the Grand Prix final. If you look at the set, the season is not standard. Not the same as before, but for me it has developed successfully. I had a significant drop in results, in everything. Now I understand that I can still, even in the fight, in the competition. I managed to get back on the podium in the Russian Championship.

– Can we call this the main achievement of the season?

– It’s a sip! I would say it’s a breath of fresh air. At the start of the season, I didn’t understand what to do. It seems like I’m doing something, something is working, but there were doubts: “Can I? Whether necessary? For what reason?” The Russian Championship was the highlight. I managed to fully concentrate, do almost my maximum – at least at that time. When you still get cashback in the form of a medal for this “, it becomes doubly enjoyable. Of course, third place is not second or first, but I haven’t even had such a result in a very long time. It gave me a huge boost to try again.

There was a feeling that there was still strength. I understand that the younger generation is behind me. They are more active, faster, they have more strength, they recover faster, they perceive something easier. I can’t do this anymore. Everything happens more consciously. However, I’m glad I managed to come back this season and it turned out that, apart from the Grand Prix Final, I won a medal in every start. I haven’t had this for a long time. The Russian Championship has become for me a pleasant reward for the way I travelled.

Thanks to my team: Svetlana Vladimirovna Sokolovskaya, the guys who work and keep believing, despite some failures in the past. The fact that it all ended up this way is also their credit,” Samarin said.

At the Russian championship in December, 24-year-old Samarin won a bronze medal, and in the Grand Prix final he became seventh.
