Zozulya: Why work to prevent enemy athletes from competing when you can just ban your own

Famous footballer criticizes the position of the Ukrainian government

Ukrainian football player of the Spanish club Rayo Majadahonda Roman Zozulya commented decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to boycott the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, to which Russian and Belarusian athletes will be admitted.

“The government has banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions where athletes from Russia and Belarus will be represented. Brilliant.”

“Why continue to strain and work to prevent enemy athletes from competing, if you can simply ban your own. A decision in which the thirst for struggle and victory is directly felt.

“The Minister of Sports, who is also the head of the NOC, Vadym Gutzeit is doing an excellent job of burying Ukrainian sports. He definitely deserved a letter of commendation from the rashists.”

Earlier, the IOC Executive Board recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine sent letters to the Olympic committees of other countries and international federations regarding the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.

Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk believes that the issue of the boycott of the Olympics in Paris should always be relevant in the dialogue with the IOC. According to him, a boycott will not be needed, as the IOC is afraid of such a development of events.

Also, a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympics was commented on by the Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchy. According to her, boycotting the Olympics is a very weak position.
