Down-the-line.com / Figure Skating. 2015 World and European champion, Russian figure skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva shared her opinion on raising the age limit in figure skating. The 25-year-old figure skater has spoken out about the ISU decision on social media.

“I think many have already heard of raising the minimum age for skaters to compete in adult competitions. What can I say: I was in the shoes of those who won at a young age, and now I am in the place of those who compete with young athletes who have been doing difficult content since childhood and feel very confident. For me, this competition has also been a motivation to not stop my development and continue to try new things.

Popova doesn’t see raising the age limit as a disaster

That’s probably okay from a mental and physical health maintenance standpoint, but it looks like junior competitions will now reach a new, even tougher level. I would like to believe that in the end, such changes will be an incentive to continue their careers and will benefit the athletes,” Tuktamysheva wrote.
