Ukrainian sports demand clarification on the boycott of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers
Ukrainian wrestler, 2020 Olympic champion and MP, Jean Beleniuk called on the Minister of Youth and Sports, the President of the NOC Vadim Gutsait speak with explanations of the latest decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers for Ukrainian sports.
“I think it would be right for Mr. Gutzeit to go to a press conference explaining the latest decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers for athletes and society as a whole.”
“Our Olympians write and call me asking how we should proceed and why the Minister-President of the NOC is silent. They are interested in questions ranging from the reasoning of the decision taken to the legal algorithm for depriving federations of the status of a national federation. Don’t be afraid to communicate with athletes.”
Recall, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to boycott the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already reacted to the decision of the Government of Ukraine to boycott the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Earlier, the IOC Executive Board recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.
