Lucescu: I should be here, and in such a difficult situation I will not leave the team

Kyiv club continues to fight for medals

Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu commented on the victory over PFC Lviv (2:0) in the 19th round of the UPL. The coach stressed that the current season is the most difficult in his career.

“Today the field was tough, we played against a physically well prepared team. We really wanted to win, the young players did well, and I’m happy for them. I want to say that we completely dominated the field, and the score 2-0 does not reflect the course of events to a sufficient extent – we should score more goals.

“It’s nice that Benito is improving from match to match. I also congratulate Yatsyk on his debut, this is important, because he became another promising performer after Voloshin, Tsarenko, Dyachuk, who played for the first team. We have to help young players to play at a good level – at the level of the first team.”

“I also note that we did not use all our chances – we had at least 6-7 more opportunities to score. But it’s okay, we need time, because we had a great team that became the champion of Ukraine, but then we had to change about 12 performers, whom we lost. Some of them perform well in England and Spain, some in Greece and other countries. Vitinho and de Pena perform well in the championships of Latin America. As you can see, we have a lot of good performers, but the team has almost completely changed.”

“I would not like to think that this is the most interesting championship, because we play without spectators, in different cities, move long distances, spend 10-13 hours on trains, etc. It is not easy to play without our fans, because the team cannot give them everything they can on the field and get emotions and enjoy football. What is happening now is incredible!”

“I never imagined in my life that I would have to play in such conditions. Rather, it is the most difficult championship. But I have to be here, and in such a difficult situation I will not leave the team.”

“We have to play football to create the feeling that life goes on. This is important because people look at us and understand that it continues. Of course, during the war it is difficult to play at the level of Western teams, but it is extremely important to continue to maintain the image of Ukrainian football at a high level.”

It should be noted that the match against Lviv was the 100th for Dynamo coach Mircea Lucescu at the helm of the Kyiv club. Under the leadership of the Romanian specialist, the people of Kiev won 57 victories.

After this victory, Dynamo remained in fourth position in the standings, gaining 36 points in 19 matches. On April 8, the Lucescu team will host Minaj in the match of the 20th round of the Ukrainian Championship.
