Bob Arum: Lomachenko’s thoughts are constantly in Ukraine, because he does not know when a rocket can destroy his house

The Lomachenko-Haney fight will take place on May 20 in Las Vegas

Promoter Bob Arum told how the war in Ukraine affected the ex-world champion in three divisions Vasily Lomachenko on the eve of his fight with the undisputed world lightweight champion Devin Haney.

“Of course, the situation in Ukraine affected Lomachenko. He was asked to defend his country, and war is war, his home is ten miles from Odessa, which was bombed by the Russians. So it should affect him.”

“He was in uniform, but he had to take up arms, and he is constantly ready to return to this. How it will affect him now that he wants to be the unified lightweight champion, you have to ask him.”

“I love Loma and I think he is a real Ukrainian patriot and he will do everything in his power. He left Ukraine and came here, but his thoughts always go back to Ukraine because he doesn’t know when a missile could destroy his house.”

The fight between Lomachenko and Haney will take place on May 20 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden and will be broadcast on the PPV system on ESPN+.

Lomachenko defeated American Jemaine Ortiz in his last fight. For the Ukrainian, this was the first and only fight for 10 months.

Haney defeated George Kambosos again last October to retain the WBC, WBA Super, IBF and WBO lightweight titles.
