The former first racket of Ukraine played the first match after the birth of her daughter
Former first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on her opening match after returning to the court from maternity leave.
“I had goosebumps. It was a very, very nice atmosphere. It was so nice to see a lot of people and they really encouraged me to get through the tough times.”
“Today was not easy for me physically, but in the end I am very pleased with the way I played today. Now I see more clearly what I need to improve.”
“I think I hit the ball well. I just need to work more on my physical form. I think a few hits here and there will help me to be more consistent in my focus to capture the moment.”
Elina lost to Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan in the first round of the tournament in Charleston. Svitolina won the first set but lost the next two.
