President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFCG) Irina Viner-Usmanova stressed the positive effect of International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) sanctions on Russian sport, noting that one day Russians should be returned to the international stage.
Initially, the FIG banned Russian and Belarusian gymnasts from performing under the national flag and anthem, but later refused to allow athletes to compete even in neutral status. On June 7-8, Moscow hosted the first stage of the international tournament “Strongest Cup”, in which scores were assigned both by WFHG rules and by FIG rules.
– Are there fears that complex elements will harm young people?
– On the contrary, the FIG rules for our adult, senior daughters ended up like this, because they don’t do anything new, and that’s terrible. Hope for young people, who lack the instinct of self-preservation, who are ready to go further, to jump on interesting elements. And if you teach these elements correctly, they will bring no harm. Having matured, gymnasts are already afraid to do something new, so you need to start from childhood. In that sense, the sanctions have helped us. And the sanctions will end one day, unless, of course, rhythmic gymnastics ends,” Viner-Usmanova told .
