Choreographer Leonova ruled out Trusova’s full-fledged transition from figure skating to athletics

Figure skater Alexandra Trousova has enough motivation not to end her career in figure skating, choreographer Alena Leonova expressed this opinion. She also talked about the skater’s debut in track and field.

Trusova placed sixth in the junior women’s (U20) long jump at Moscow Athletics Week on Thursday. With a result of 4.10 meters, the figure skater finished the second youth category in the long jump (the category is given for a jump of 4.00).

Sasha is great at trying something new. In addition, the off-season is the time to focus on something other than figure skating. Participating in such competitions is great.

– The departure of Eteri Tutberidze to the United States, combined with the lost gold of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing and the remoteness of Russian skaters from international competitions, can Trusova decide to end her career?

– Although there are no clear prerequisites, it is difficult to say anything. I think Sasha has enough motivation: she hasn’t become an Olympic champion yet, and she certainly wants to be. God forbid that by the 2026 Olympics, we will once again be allowed to participate in international competitions. Moreover, Trusova never stops and constantly studies new things, learns something new and always and everywhere wants to be the first. It seems like a big motivation. If Tutberidze leaves suddenly, I don’t think Sasha will end her career because of it.

– How at such a young age, when you already have a lot of serious competitions and difficult and emotional stages of life behind you, should a skater be prepared not to give up and keep fighting for the top places? Surely that’s what most of her fans expect of her.

– First of all, you have to really love what you do and don’t forget about the loyal fans you’re doing all this for. This motivates all skaters, not just Trusova.

– Do you exclude a full-fledged transition of Trusova from figure skating to athletics?

– No, what are you (laughs). It was just a desire to try yourself, – quotes the words of Leonova “Sport Day After Day”.

Trusova, who turns 18 on June 23, was the first in history to be able to perform five quadruple jumps in a free skate at the 2022 Olympics without falling. He won the silver of the Games.
