Skier Kuleshova: “I’m grateful to have spent this season in Russia. My return went well.”

2018 Olympic Bronze Medalist Skier Anastasia Kuleshova told that the return to professional sport after the birth of a child was smooth due to the lack of international tournaments.

For the 28-year-old skier, the current season was the first full season after the birth of her daughter. Kuleshova won the 30km mass start at the 2022 Russian Championships and also became a bronze medalist in the skiathlon and relay race.

“Now I don’t live with the thought of 2026. First, we don’t know what’s going to happen, and second, I don’t like making plans so far, because every year I tell my husband, ‘ I don’t know if I’ll race next year or not” (laughs). Of course, I want good results, I want an Olympic medal, but what happens next is unknown. When I think that during the Games in Italy, my child will be six years old, I feel sad: as if I would miss his entire childhood. I hope not.

– And next season: how ready are you to dedicate yourself to sport?

– Here, too, he is such a passer: there are no world championships, no Olympics. I would like to return to international competitions. Analyzing this season, I am grateful that we are in Russia. For me, it was a smooth comeback to try my luck and match the girls. Next year I would like to go to world competitions, even if the probability is low. We will prepare, no matter where we compete. The preparation will be the same,” Kuleshova told .

Last season, the Russians did not take part in competitions under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS). The organization made such a decision in accordance with the recommendations of the IOC due to the situation in Ukraine.

The federal television channel broadcast live all the main competitions of the season in biathlon and cross-country skiing in Russia.
