Russian judokas were admitted to the Grand Slam tournament. FDU may refuse to participate in international competitions

The official statement of the Ukrainian federation will be released soon

The International Judo Federation (IJF) announced its decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to the next Grand Slam tournament in Ulaanbaatar.

Representatives of the aggressor countries will be able to compete in Mongolia on the terms of neutrality, without using the anthems and flags of their states.

Mikhail Koshlyak, President of the Judo Federation of Ukraine, reacted to the decision of the governing body. According to him, in response to the decision of the IJF, Ukrainian judokas may refuse to participate in international competitions.

“I am shocked by this position of the IJF, both as the president of the FDU and as an ordinary Ukrainian. Aggression from Russia has not gone away, we are on the 107th day of the war, people are dying, cities are burning from Russian missiles and artillery, ”the functionary wrote.

“If the IJF allows the team of the terrorist country Russia to its starts – and this, by the way, also applies to Belarus – the Ukrainian national judo team will refuse to participate in all subsequent competitions under the auspices of the International Judo Federation. We have already discussed this with the coaching staff of the team, here we have a common opinion.”

The FDU will make an official statement in the coming days.

Competitions in Ulaanbaatar will be held on June 24-26. At the previous tournament of the series in Tbilisi, the Ukrainian Natalia Chistyakova won the bronze medal.
