Chinese grandmaster defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi in a tie-break
Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren became new world chess champion.
In the championship match, the Chinese beat Yana Nepomniachtchi. The main confrontation ended in a draw 7:7. Nepomniachtchi took the lead three times, but Liren managed to switch the fight to a tie-break.
The first three rapid games ended in a draw. In the final fourth game, Liren managed to achieve a two-pawn advantage with Black, won and became the champion.
We will remind, earlier the title belonged to the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, who defended it since 2013. Carlsen said last year that he had lost the motivation to fight for this title. At the same time, the Norwegian remains the leader of the world ranking.
