Russian and Belarusian athletes can take part in Grand Slam competitions in Mongolia
President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergei Bubka reacted to the decision International Judo Federation (IJF) to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to the next Grand Slam tournament in Ulaanbaatar.
According to the decision of the IJF, representatives of the aggressor countries will be able to compete in Mongolia on the terms of neutrality, without using the anthems and flags of their states. Competitions in Ulaanbaatar will be held on June 24-26.
“The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine fully supports the position of the International Olympic Committee, which was announced in February, nothing has changed since then,” Bubka said.
“The Executive Committee of the IOC, in order to protect the unity of international sports competitions, recommended their organizers and international sports federations not to invite athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus to participate. This position was fully supported earlier this week by the Summer Olympic Sports Association. The NOC of Ukraine requires all IFs to comply with the above recommendations.”
Earlier, President of the Judo Federation of Ukraine Mikhail Koshlyak said that in response to the decision of the IJF, Ukrainian judokas may refuse to participate in international competitions.
