2022 Olympics silver medalist in the marathon Ivan Yakimushkin hopes that the suspension of skiers from international tournaments will not be long.
– Honestly, I’m not lying a single gram – we have a very tough internal competition. This people stimulates. Everyone wants to perform. If you look at how I raced at the start of the season, I couldn’t get past sixth place. Enough motivation. Financially, everything will be decided. We’re pretty stable in that regard. For a certain development of cross-country skiing in Russia, if the suspension is long – three or four years, it will be negative, since it will affect juniors and young people who want to compete at the international level. Extra inventory – top of the range skis are made in Europe, it is impossible for us to manufacture ours in a short time. So with a long suspension, there will be a drop.
But if we are released next year, we won’t lose anything. Bolshunov will rush, as he was carried, so will we, everything will be magnificent. It might affect the service a bit, as you will have to get used to the new fluoride requirements, but our guys are so professional that they will solve any problem instantly. And I hope there will still be no long-term suspension,” Yakimushkin told the Championship.
Yakimushkin, 26, is the 2022 Olympics silver medalist, the 2021 World Championship silver medalist in the relay.
Last year, the International Ski Federation (FIS) suspended Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
