Double Olympic figure skating champion Yevgeny Plushenko believes that raising the age limit in figure skating will help Russian athletes extend their careers.
The Congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) has decided to gradually raise the age limit in figure skating from 15 to 17 years. The changes will come into effect from the 2023/24 season.
– It’s great that the ISU has raised the age limit, because our girls are graduating at the age of 15, but where is the fight, the victory? Of course, girls gain weight, height, but what if this is overcome? For example, our legendary Tuktamysheva , at 25, she is in great shape, continues to skate, triple axel jumps, quadruple jumps. I would like to extend the life of our athletes, Plushenko told .
