Representatives of aggressor countries cannot compete in international competitions
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit once again stated that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not participate in international competitions. According to him, Ukrainian athletes are ready to boycott competitions, to which representatives of the aggressor countries will be admitted.
“The full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine has already claimed the lives of more than 70 Ukrainian athletes and coaches. Representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are looking for an opportunity to express themselves on the international arena, speaking under a neutral white flag. It is unacceptable! Athletes from these countries cannot participate in international competitions either under their own or under neutral flags, as they tacitly agree with the killing of Ukrainians or openly support it,” Gutzeit wrote on his Facebook page.
“I suggested that the presidents of all-Ukrainian federations apply to international sports federations to prevent such cases. In the event that athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are allowed to participate in competitions, Ukrainian athletes are ready to block their performances and boycott the competitions. The world has no right to forget about the war that Russia started against Ukraine.”
Earlier, the International Judo Federation (IJF) decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to the next Grand Slam tournament in Ulaanbaatar in a neutral status. In response to the decision of the IJF, Ukrainian judokas may refuse to participate in international competitions.
