Down-the-line.com/weightlifting. Russian weightlifters will not be able to participate in the Grand Prix stage in Cuba, because they did not submit the necessary documents to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in time.

The IWF has allowed the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in their competitions, however, all athletes applying for neutral status must complete individual declarations. In these documents, each athlete must confirm that he has no connection with the armed forces, state security agencies or other similar structures.

“At the end of the deadline (May 15, 2023), no signed declarations had been received from athletes and accompanying personnel with Russian passports. Therefore, neutral athletes and associated personnel with Russian passports have been deprived of the possibility of participating in the upcoming competitions in Cuba.

The IWF offered athletes and accompanying personnel from both countries equal and fair opportunities to participate in the Havana Grand Prix. These recommendations are in line with IOC guidelines,” the IWF said in a statement.

The Grand Prix stop will take place in Havana from June 8-18. There will be 13 Belarusian athletes who will have provided the necessary declarations.
