First gold for Ukraine in singles finals since 2005
Ukrainian Victoria Onoprienko became European champion in rhythmic gymnastics.
At competitions in Baku, Victoria won gold in exercises with a hoop. The Ukrainian scored 33.250 points ahead of Israel’s Adi Katz (32.600 points) and Bulgaria’s Boryana Kalein (32.250).
Onoprienko won her first personal medal at the European Championships. For Ukraine, this is the first gold in individual competitions since 2005. The last time Natalia Godunko became the European champion in exercises with a ribbon.
Earlier, Viktoria won silver in the team championship as part of the Ukrainian national team. In addition to Onoprienko, the blue-and-yellows in the individual exercises were represented by Polina Karika and Polina Gorodnichaya. Anastasia Vozniak, Eva Meleshchuk, Maria Vysochanskaya, Daria Duda, Diana Baeva and Elizaveta Azza performed in group exercises as part of the national team.
