Zhevago: Vorskla’s budget will decrease, but I will continue to support the club

The businessman hopes that football in Ukraine will eventually become profitable

Ukrainian billionaire, honorary president Vorskla Konstantin Zhevago announced that he would continue to financially support the Poltava team.

“I have supported the club since 2004. And, of course, we will do it together with sponsors in this difficult time.”

“This is not a profitable business and never has been. This is an investment in the future, in the development of sports. I am sure that when we become part of the European Union, the situation in sports will be the same as in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary. That is, football will become a profitable business. As for the figures, I would not like to name them now. Naturally, the budgets have decreased compared to pre-war times.”

“Yes, the budget will be less than $10 million. But this is enough for the team to take part in all competitions and prove with their results the ambition to occupy the highest lines in the standings.”

It was previously reported that Switzerland had seized Zhevago’s assets for more than $113 million. The State Bureau of Investigation is cooperating with the Swiss justice authorities to return the seized assets of the billionaire to Ukraine.

Earlier, Zhevago was released from custody on bail in the amount of one million euros. He is not allowed to leave mainland France, where he was arrested. At the same time, the Kyiv Economic Court arrested the assets of Konstantin Zhevago in the amount of about 46 billion hryvnias.

In December, Zhevago was detained in the ski resort of Courchevel in the French Alps. He is suspected of embezzling the property of the Finance and Credit Bank, in which Zhevago was listed as a beneficiary, in the amount of 2.5 billion hryvnias.

Zhevago also left the post of director and resigned from the board of directors of Ferrexpo, which is a sponsor of the Vorskla football club.
