The first medal of Ukraine at the tournament in Budapest
Representative of Ukraine Olga Sopit became European champion U-23 in fencingwhich takes place in Budapest.
On the way to the final, the Ukrainian fencer beat the British Amelie Tsang (15:11), Lior Druk (15:11) from Israel, her compatriot Alina Polozyuk (15:11) and the Italian Anna Kristino (15:12).
In the final, Sopit defeated another representative of Italy, Vittoria Ciampalini – 15:10.
For the first time in history, Ukraine won a medal in foil fencing at the European Championships among athletes under 23 years old.
The continental championship in Budapest takes place from 23 to 27 May. Team of Ukraine at the European Championship represented by 24 athletes.
