President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov told that coaches need proper encouragement to raise Olympic champions.
Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted to change the federal law on additional pension payments for coaches who coached Olympic and Paralympic champions, as well as Deaflympic winners. The additional payment will be made from 1 January 2024 and will amount to 250% of the social pension.
— We were not the initiators of this process of change, but we were asked for advice on this matter. A coach is a person who devotes his life to the education of athletes and, unfortunately, they are often forgotten in our country. Of course, I really want the coaches to get the proper encouragement, Salnikov told .
In turn, three-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Maria Kiseleva stressed the importance of the decision.
“It can motivate those whose hard work, incredible effort and preparation sometimes take a back seat to brilliant victories from their wards. I personally followed this issue and tried to help since 2020 – there were roundtables, requests and working meetings with experts who could somehow influence this. You could say they achieved it with blood and sweat, it seems there is no other way in the sport. Finally the law was passed, a big thank you on behalf of everyone who fought for it,” Kiseleva wrote on her Telegram channel.
