Malinowski: Fans want goals, assists, but there is a coach who asks for something else

Ruslan believes that in Marseille he is better able to play in the defensive phase than in attack

Midfielder Marseille Ruslan Malinovsky commented on the performance of the team this season. The Ukrainian also appreciated his game in the French championship.

“We know we could have played better and of course there is disappointment. We lost a few points that we shouldn’t have lost. But last year, 72 points were enough to finish second. Now we already have 73 points two games before the end of the season,” said Malinovsky.

“I think that in Marseille I play better in the defensive phase than in attack. I spend a lot of energy to keep compact, keep an eye on my player, defend. Attacking is a little worse. I must find a balance. The fans want goals, assists, but there is a coach who asks for something else. The game starts with a defense and if you don’t, then the next day he shows a video of your mistakes and what needs to be improved. But yes, I think I can do more offensively, a lot more.”

Malinovsky has played 21 matches for Olimpik this season, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.

In the summer, Marseille will buy Malinovsky from Atalanta and sign a contract with the Ukrainian until the summer of 2026. According to the lease agreement, Ruslan became a full-fledged player in Marseille, provided that the club retains its registration in the French Ligue 1.

Marseille are in third place in the Ligue 1 standings with two rounds left in the season.
