Olympic cross-country skiing champion Denis Spitsov in an interview with , he endorsed the position of Alina Pekletsova, who criticized the sports authorities of Vologda, and recalled her transition to another regional federation. At the moment, Spitsov represents the Tyumen region, under whose auspices he has been competing since 2011.
Pekletsova became one of the discoveries of the Russian cross-country championship held in Tyumen. His result aroused the interest of media representatives. Pekletsova said that skiing in the Vologda oblast is developing poorly, and part of the territory of the Lokomotiv stadium, where she trained all her life, was given over to development. The athlete also said that previously skiers had at their disposal the sports and recreation complex of Izumrud, located 30 km from Vologda. But now it has been transferred to the jurisdiction of the region and entrusted to the military-patriotic center.
“As a native of these places, I tend to agree with the critics,” the correspondent said, quoting Spitsov. — When I played for Vologda Oblast, I knew many talented and promising athletes who had absolutely no support and no opportunity for growth in the region. Moving to Tyumen, I heard: “We don’t need you, we have a whole region.” I don’t know, maybe something has changed. But then the athletes were not particularly interesting for Vologda officials. And the documents for the exit were delivered to me quickly, without regrets.
At the end of last season, Spitsov took fourth place in the Russian Cup, losing to Bolshunov, Maltsev and Semikov. In the FLGR‑2022/23 classification, he is in 9th row. At the moment, the athlete is in Kislovodsk, where he is preparing for the upcoming season in the group of Yuri Borodavko.
Spitsov is the 2022 Olympic champion, three-time Olympic silver medalist, Pyeongchang 2018 bronze medalist.
