The Badminton World Federation (BWF) discussed the possible admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international tournaments as neutral athletes, the regulatory framework on this issue will be provided to the board of the organization during its meeting in August, according to the BWF website.

The BWF Board meeting will take place August 21-27 in Copenhagen.

– The guiding principle of the BWF is that athletes should always be allowed to participate in sporting events without having their passport assessed and regardless of any geopolitical disputes beyond the control of the sports movement. Sport must promote peace and solidarity among all and must not become a political means of influencing geopolitics.

Therefore, he was tasked with presenting to the board at its next meeting in August a regulatory and operational framework allowing athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports to compete as individual neutral athletes. The BWF Council will then discuss the merits of the principles, framework and timing of a possible lifting of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes, according to the BWF website.

In April, the BWF announced that the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in competitions under the auspices of the organization was maintained.
