Athletistic/chess. Russian chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi has confirmed his participation in the Chess World Cup 2023. The official website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) reported that the list of participants in this world competition also includes the 16th champion of the Norwegian world, Magnus Carlsen.
At present, it is known that 146 men and 71 women will participate in the World Cup. Among the participants who will gather in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, will be chess stars such as Magnus Carlsen, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri, Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Teimour Radjabov, Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Dommaraju Gukes, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Rameshbabu Pragnanandha and others.
Among the participants, such strong chess players as Humpy Koneru, Ju Wenjun (regardless of the outcome of the championship game), Alexandra Goryachkina, Ekaterina Lahno, Alexandra Kosteniuk and others will compete for entry into the Candidates Tournament .
It is important to note that this year, the winners of the match for third place will also receive a ticket for the Candidates Tournaments.
The final list of participants will be compiled during the period from June 15 to 30.
So far, 146 men out of 206 have been confirmed to take part, while the women’s tournament will feature Russian chess players Alexandra Goryachkina, Ekaterina Lahno and Alexandra Kosteniuk, who will represent Switzerland.
The Chess World Cup will take place from July 30 to August 24 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
