Head coach of the Russian diving team Svetlana Moiseeva spoke about the IOC’s recommendations on the possible return of Russians to the greatest starts and compared her sport to biathlon.
Recommendations include neutral status, individual clearance, no contracts with security forces and the armed forces, and also suggest that the athletes have not come out in favor of the CWO.
– Everyone has long been aware that belonging to power structures gives athletes the possibility of additional funding, better preparation for the same Games. You correctly noted that Ukrainian athletes are exactly the same military personnel. Just like us, we participated in the world championships among military athletes. But that doesn’t mean that people were professional soldiers at the same time!
It seems to me that this cannot happen in technically complex coordination sports in general, even theoretically. We are not biathlon in this respect: to reach a high level and stay there for many years, you have to not only train a lot, but devote your whole life to it,” Moiseeva told RT.
