The Russian Fencing Federation previously announced that six Russian female fencers, including Yana Bekmurzova, Artem Sarkisyan and Polina Khaertdinova (all in the epee competition), as well as Valeria Kobzeva, Alyona Lisina and Anna Smirnova (all in the saber competition), will participate in the European championship in neutral status. However, Kobzeva’s names no longer appear in the list of participants in the individual saber tournament, published on the official FIE website. Only Lisina and Smirnova are on the list.
The Inside the Games portal reports that the Ukrainian Sports Ministry has accused Kobzeva of breaking the rules allowing athletes to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.
The individual competitions of the European Championship will take place from June 16 to 18 in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.
