Former sports director of the Hungarian Figure Skating Federation Gurgen Vardanyan told Metaratings.ru that he believes Evgenia Plushenko a talented coach who can teach his students a lot.
– Are you aware of the story with the harsh criticism of the judges of Evgeni Plushenko after the junior championship of Russia?
“I didn’t see exactly what happened there, I can’t give an assessment. When I was skating myself, my athletes were skating, the judges weren’t evaluating it that way – you had to get even better and head and shoulders above it. I will meet Zhenya and ask her about this situation.
– Now Plushenko still has a top figure skater – Muravyova, as well as juniors. What are his prospects as a coach?
– Girls came to him as ready-made athletes, but he can teach them much more. I think Plushenko is a talented coach,” Vardanyan said.
In February 2023, Plushenko criticized the refereeing at the Russian Junior Championship and announced a possible change of sports citizenship by his students.
