Bubka: It is important for us to preserve Ukrainian sports and the Olympic movement

The NOC of Ukraine is making every effort for our victory

President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bubka spoke about the work of the organization during the war. The functionary also reported how the International Olympic Committee helps the Ukrainian sports community.

“Each of us makes every effort for our victory. The Humanitarian Center, which we created in early March, is actively working and today we hear about its work. We cannot stand aside, our work and activity must be very fruitful, and most importantly, people must feel it. The heads of our branches provided asylum to citizens in those regions where it was required. I am grateful to everyone and everyone for their support in making operational decisions that we took together with you in the first days of the war, regardless of our location,” Bubka said.

“On February 28, we decided to provide assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the “Olympic family” in the amount of 1 million hryvnias. During this time, we financially helped regional branches, the total amount is about 5 million hryvnias. We made payments under the administrative grant for 1.5 million hryvnia, and the annual budget – 1.9 million hryvnia. We understand how important this is today.”

“IOC President Thomas Bach has created a solidarity fund to help the Olympic community and the sports movement in Ukraine. No country during the war had such a support fund, this is a unique case. Thomas Bach called me to Lausanne to coordinate this work.”

“It is important for us to preserve Ukrainian sports and the Olympic movement by uniting in this struggle. Together we can win. The fund has spent $1.3 million to date.”
