The delegates of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) congress rejected the proposal of a group of countries to suspend the membership of the fencing federations of Russia and Belarus to this organization, posted on the site Fencing Federation of Russia (FFR).
– The proposal to modify the EFC charter was presented by the fencing federations of Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Estonia. They proposed to significantly expand the article of the current charter, which refers to the exclusion of any national federation from the EFC, as well as to add an article to the charter, which would prescribe the procedure for suspension of the membership in this organization.
In the event that Congress sanctions changes to the EFC charter, these countries have proposed to immediately suspend Russia and Belarus’ membership of the EFC. However, the EFC congress did not accept these proposals with a majority. Thus, the fencing federations of Russia and Belarus continue to be members of the EFC.
Earlier, the EFC Congress prematurely terminated the powers of the organization’s president Stanislav Pozdnyakov .
