On July 2, Ukraine U-21 will play in the quarterfinals of the youth European Championship 2023
Head coach of the youth team of Ukraine Ruslan Rotan shared his impressions after the confrontation with Spain U-21 (2:2) at the European Youth Championship 2023.
“I feel a little sad for the team, because they deserved more. But as a coach, I am satisfied with the guys, I am satisfied with the team’s performance. This is probably the most important thing for me right now.”
“We are in the quarter-finals. We have to take a good approach to this match in the psychological aspect: to feel that we can play with strong teams at least on an equal footing. I told the guys that I am sure that we are stronger. Let’s try to carry it with us throughout the tournament. The most important thing now is to recover, to prepare well for this match. Let’s see what the result will be after the game.”
“I don’t think that we have the first team, but somewhere we have a reserve. First of all, we are a team, and we go this way. Some play more, some play less. We are doing one thing, and I am very pleased that we have neither a reserve nor a first team. It is most important. Every football player is ready to go out, help the team, give his all, while understanding all our tactical schemes.”
“Apparently, the match against Spain is a test before the quarter-final. The level of responsibility, the psychological state… We have now passed the group stage, ahead is the quarterfinal, for which we should already prepare as a team that wants to go further. Least. So our next step is to be focused and try to make this step the best we can.”
The Ukrainian national team scored 7 points and took second place in group B. The Spaniards also scored 7 points, but were ahead of the blue-yellows due to the better difference between goals scored and conceded.
On July 2, Ukraine U-21 will play in the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2023 with the winner of Group D (France, Italy or Switzerland). The meeting will be held in Cluj-Napoca and will start at 22:00 Kyiv time.
