“I’m not going to give up Russian citizenship for the Olympics. I’m not” – Ilyinykh

Diving World Championships Christina Ilinykh told that she was not considering the possibility of giving up Russian nationality to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in March recommendations on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual eligibility, status neutrality, banning team sports, and banning athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the CWO.

“I’m definitely not going to give up citizenship or move anywhere. It’s just not my case.

We are not the only athletes in this world. I don’t think I should go to these Olympics. Either way, we’re doing it for the country, in part. Not so directly for me. Of course, all this is interesting, but it is the fruit of our work. But I don’t think it’s that important to me. I have already participated in an Olympic Games. It’s okay if I miss it this time,” Ilinykh said in the program “All for the match! on MatchTV.

Elizabeth Kuzina , who is paired with the Ilyins in Synchronized Jumps, agreed with her partner on the issue of citizenship change. The athlete noted that she was not thinking about whether to speak at the 2024 Games.

– Regarding the Olympics or some future competitions, I cannot answer this question. In sport, I live day to day. That is, I train and try to improve the class of jumps. I think it’s easier not to think about it,” Kuzina said.

Ilyinykh and Kuzina won the synchronized diving from a three-meter springboard on June 25 at the Russian Championships in Yekaterinburg.
