2022 Olympic champion in women’s singles Anna Shcherbakova I am happy that the popularity of figure skating in Russia remains, despite the withdrawal of Russians from international tournaments.

– Recently, many events have taken place with the participation of figure skaters: the final of the Battle of Schools, the Moscow Sports Day. Do you think it contributes to the popularization of figure skating?

– It seems to me that figure skating, in principle, is now one of the most popular sports in Russia, especially figure skaters, girls, which many people follow, so it’s great that despite the absence of international competitions, figure skating is so loved in our country, so support the athletes. It’s cool that there are a lot of different events,” reports Sport24 Shcherbakova.

In early June, the International Skating Union (ISU) confirmed the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in competitions under the organization’s auspices. This decision was taken in 2022 in the context of the situation in Ukraine.
