Master of world-class sports in athletics, general trainer of physical preparation at the Academy of Figure Skating (St. Petersburg) Olga Belkina said that she uses a different approach in training different groups of skaters.
– I work with athletes of all ages – beginner skaters and national team athletes. Therefore, of course, not all skaters have the same training. There is a certain spine plan, but it differs depending on age, previous injuries, athlete level, season tasks, number of workouts per week. We take into account the characteristics of single, pair and synchronized skating. In synchronized and pair skating, for example, grips and supports are very necessary; in single people, on the contrary, less attention can be paid to the hands. From the outside, it looks like it doesn’t look that hard for talons and synchronized swimmers, but then they come at me with all their shoulder blades rolled back, Belkina told the Championship.
