Carlo was Mircea Lucescu’s assistant in the Donetsk team
New head coach Miner Patrick van Leeuwen told who entered his coaching headquarters. Ex-coach of the Pitmen’s youth team will work with the Dutch specialist Oscar Ratulutra and former assistant to Mircea Lucescu Carlo Nicolini.
“I have two Dutch assistants: Raymond Atteveld, outfield coach, and Dennis Genthenaer, goalkeeping coach. We also have Ukrainian specialists: Dmitry Kabachok, who works with analytics, Valery Blokhin, who works with physical indicators, Oscar Ratulutra and Oleksandr Chizhov, who have been associated with Shakhtar for quite a long time.”
“As I said in the presentation to the team, Oscar was one of the first coaches we considered. He came to the first team as a mentor who developed in parallel with the players, so it’s great to have him on the coaching staff.”
“Also we have joined Carlo Nicolini, who has a very rich experience during his successful period with Mircea Lucescu. Therefore, we hope to use his experience and knowledge to coach the team.”
Van Leeuwen signed a contract with Shakhtar until June 30, 2025. As head coach of the team, the Dutchman replaced Igor Jovicevich.
Van Leeuwen became the 36th coach in Shakhtar’s history. Last season, he led Zorya, with whom he took third place in the Ukrainian championship.
The miner has already arrived in the Netherlands, where he will hold a summer training camp. The Pitmen plan to play five test matches.
The Donetsk club became the champion of Ukraine in the 2022/23 season. The Pitmen got into the third pot of the draw for the next Champions League group stage.
