The European Handball Federation took away the right to host the women’s European Championship 2026 from Russia

Now the continental championship will be hosted by another country

European Handball Federation (EHF) took away from Russia the right to host Women’s European Championship 2026.

Due to the unleashed war of Russia against Ukraine, the EHF held consultations with the Russian handball federation and decided to start looking for an alternative venue for holding the continental championship.

Recall that the Court of Appeal of the European Handball Federation (EHF) rejected the petitions of the Russian Handball Federation and Moscow CSKA to suspend the removal of Russian teams and clubs from tournaments under the auspices of the EHF.

The decision of the EHF Executive Committee to remove the representatives of the aggressor country remains in force, since the reasons for maintaining the disqualification are much more important than the participation of Russian teams in European competitions.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has been going on for 496 days.
