Prosecutors say former CEO Zari signed fictitious contracts for signing two players
Lugansk Regional Prosecutor’s Office announced suspicion of tax evasion to former CEO Zari Sergei Rafailov.
According to the investigation, in 2019 Rafailov underestimated Zarya’s tax liabilities in the amount of more than 5 million hryvnias. The club’s tax records showed expenses for the search and contracting services for two players, which were not actually fulfilled.
Rafailov faces a fine of ten thousand to fifteen thousand minimum incomes of citizens with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
Sergey Rafailov served as CEO of Zarya from November 2009 to March 2020. During his work, the Lugansk club earned at least 15.6 million euros from the sale of players, including the sale of goalkeeper Andrei Lunin to Real Madrid for 8.5 million euros.
Zorya finished third in the Ukrainian Championship and will play in the Europa League qualification. After the departure of Patrick van Leeuwen, Nenad Lalatovich became the new head coach of the team.
