The Blue-and-Yellows snatched victory in overtime
Ukrainian men’s beach soccer team beat Spain in the first round of the group stage of the qualifying tournament for World Cup 2024 – 4:3.
Wards of Nikolai Kostenko and Oleksandr Korniychuk had a good start and took the lead 2-0 thanks to Guisado’s own goal and Andriy Nerush’s accurate shot. However, the Spaniards until the end of the first period managed to recoup and come out ahead.
In the second period Maxim Voytok equalized the score. After that, the teams did not score goals until the end of regular time. And at the very beginning of overtime, Wojtok scored a double, thanks to which the blue-yellows got the victory.
Ukraine will play the next match against Poland on Thursday, July 6. The meeting starts at 13:45. The final match of group B blue-yellow will play on July 7 with Lithuania.
The European selection for the 2024 World Cup is being held in Baku and will end on July 9. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals. The semi-finalists will receive direct tickets to the World Championship, which will be held from 15 to 25 February 2024 in the UAE.
