Down-the-line.com / Figure Skating. A lawyer specializing in doping issues has commented on the situation with former figure skater Adelina Sotnikova. She previously admitted that at the 2014 Olympics, where she won a gold medal, her doping test came back positive.

According to the athlete, the charges against her were dropped after the B doping test gave a negative result.

Former coach Sotnikova reacted to the recognition of the athlete about a positive doping test

“There are two scenarios in which a positive doping test is not considered an anti-doping rule violation. The first is if the athlete has a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). A positive result is reported , then the concentration of a prohibited substance is checked – the athlete received a TUE for two tablets a day, and there is a concentration on all 10. Then, despite the presence of a TUE, it will be a violation of anti-doping rules.

The second case, with the autopsy of the “B” sample, which Sotnikova spoke about. This is a very rare case when opened and it does not confirm “A” sample. But these cases occur, especially with a number of substances of endogenous and exogenous origin, the laboratory cannot always clearly distinguish between them.

There can be no punishment for Sotnikova, no one can go back on this topic now. The case is absolutely closed”, quotes Match TV quoting the lawyer.
