Sports Minister of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov in an interview with said that in the future a separate facility may be built for the school of Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova.
In June, the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), discussed with Zagitova a plan to open a figure skating school in Kazan. Later, at the introductory meeting, Leonov introduced the Olympic champion to the department heads of the department for further cooperation.
– How are things with the figure skating school in Zagitova?
– We met her at SPIEF, and a week later she came to Kazan. We are currently working on two fronts. The first is the opening of a school under his auspices. Also, it won’t just be about naming the school after Zagitova. Alina will be directly involved in the work of the school: it is about the selection of coaches and the management of a sports institution.
Secondly, by the end of the year, we set ourselves the task of defining a legal scheme and approving the establishment plan. And the first enrollment in the school should take place in January 2024. It will be located in the Sports Palace, which is equipped with everything necessary for the training of figure skaters. But we see that the demand for ice cream is very high. Over time, we want to implement another project – to build a sports facility only for figure skating, where the school in Zagitova will move.
What stage is this idea at?
– We select a site, in parallel we engage in the formation of a detailed technical mission in order to entrust it to a design institute. If everything goes well in 2024, including with the budget, and serious investments are planned, then in a year, if all the administrative and financial decisions are made, we will be able to implement such a project. We build quickly, practice allows us to do it efficiently and in the shortest possible time.
– Are Alina’s eyes burning with anticipation?
– They’re on fire! She herself admitted that she was ripe for opening a school. For her, this is a fundamental moment, she puts her name on the line and wants to fully manage the school, ”Leonov told .
Zagitova suspended her sports career in 2019.
You will soon find the full version of Leonov’s interview on the website!
