Using props develops figure skating, says junior world championship winner

Junior Ice Dance World Championship Winner, Coach and Choreographer Alla Loboda talked about the use of props in figure skating.

– If I’m not mistaken, a very long time ago in ice dancing, when there were still three dances, in the original skaters could use some kind of props. I think it’s very interesting, it’s developing. It adds spice, it can be interesting to beat. But, probably, it’s more suitable for dancing, in singles I have no idea how it can be done.

I like to offer interesting features, for example, related to a costume. This season, our daughter skated Ratatouille, and she had a mouse, which at the end of the program she detached from her dress with a button and showed it. It seems to me that it is interesting and at the end of the program it no longer distracts her or the judges.

Have the points been reduced because of this? No. It seems to me that such details should not be punished, especially children when trying something new. And even more for adults. It’s just that everyone wants to convey their image more interestingly, and it is absolutely not worth criticizing this, – Loboda quotes the words “Championship”.
